What is an urgent care?

A clinic that specializes in the treatment of minor illnesses and injuries for patients of all ages. It is a convenient alternative when you cannot get a timely appointment with your primary doctor or you don't want to wait hours in an emergency department.

When should I go to an emergency department instead of Velocity Care?

Any serious or life threatening problem including but not limited to severe chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, loss of coordination or sudden weakness/numbness on one side of the body, coughing or vomiting up blood, extensive rectal bleeding, seizures, pregnancy related problems, and snake bites. We do not accept ambulances at our site but if we believe it is necessary for you to be seen emergently in an emergency department setting, we will call for one to transfer you.

Who will take care of me and what services will be provided at the
urgent care clinic?

You will be seen by Board certified physicians, nurses and radiology technicians.
We provide diagnostic tests when needed, including lab and X-ray, and can dispense most common medications on site.

What happens when I leave the urgent care?

We will provide medical follow up for your problem, referring to a wide range of medical specialists or primary doctors.

How long will I have to wait?

Generally the wait is less than 20 minutes and your entire visit should take less than an hour.

What is an Emergency Medicine Physician? What special training
do they have?

Many people don’t realize that Emergency Medicine is a specialty. To be an Emergency Medicine physician requires at least 3 years of training in an accredited Emergency Medicine residency program after receiving your degree in medicine.

The first emergency medicine residency program was established in 1978 in Cincinnati, OH and is now a very competitive specialty nationwide. Emergency medicine physicians receive training in all specialties during residency. These specialties include general surgery, trauma surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, internal medicine, pulmonary and critical care, pediatrics, ophthalmology, ENT, OB/GYN, and dermatology. They have learned how to manage a busy Emergency Department and keep things running smoothly and efficiently. Some of the most talented physicians choose to enter Emergency Medicine because these doctors are truly on “the front lines” of medicine.

Emergency medicine physicians are also providing more access to health care by bringing their skills to the public in the setting of Urgent Care Medicine. This allows for patients to receive “emergency” type care without the frustration and waiting times typically associated with emergency rooms.
